LIST OF COMMONLY ASKED QUESTIONS for Steve’s Home Services, LLC, in STanwood, WA
If you’re at the point where you’ve decided it’s time to start that home remodeling project this year I'd like to help. We can help you with the challenging part of selecting the right general contractor for the job. Here is a list of commonly asked questions with answers.
How long have you been in this business?
We have over 25 years of experience and 15 years’ operating SHS.
Do you have a contracting license?
Yes. General Contractor STEVEHS871BU.
Will you obtain the permits if they are needed?
Not every job requires permits or inspections. Some remodeling projects will require permits if the structure is changing. The owner shall obtain all licenses and permits necessary for proper completion of the Work. We will know what kind of permits you will need and how to get them. We are willing to pull them for you if needed.
What is the payment schedule?
Once ready we will send you a formal contract. Then we will invoice you for half down on total cost. Once 50%% of the job is complete (agreed by both parties) we will most likely need progress payments from that point forward. You will be able to withhold a percentage defined in the Contract until 100%% completion to ensure everything is done to your satisfaction.
Are there any other projects you’re working on now that could affect our schedule?
If we have other projects in the works, we will let you know ahead of time before you are added to our calendar. We will schedule the dates for your job when we know there is an opening. We will keep you informed if there any changes to the schedule. Once we are on your job it is our goal to complete it before we move to the next one.
How will the necessary changes to our timeline be addressed?
We will call you or let you know in person.
Will I have a dedicated team working on my job?
Yes, we have a dedicated team who are all qualified to do any part of the required work.
Will the same team be working on my home each day?
Yes, depending on the daily needs all or part of the team will be at your job each day.
Do you work with subcontractors? If so, what have you done to properly qualify them, and are they covered by your liability and worker’s compensation insurance?
Steve's Home Services shall furnish to the owner a list of names of subcontractors proposed to perform principal portions of the Work upon request. We will not employ any subcontractor to who whom the owner objects.
We have a dedicated highly qualified team that is covered by our liability and worker’s compensation. When we hire a subcontractor, it is done on a case-by-case basis and they will always carry their liability and insurance.
How often will the business owner check in on the progress of the project?
Most likely daily I will check in on the progress. I am usually working on a job along with our team.
What is your working day like and the approximate start and end times for construction day(s)?
We usually start between 8 and 9 am and end the day after 5 pm. There will be days we might go past 5 pm to finish up a particular part of the job.
Do I need to remove any items that are in or near work areas?
Before I begin a job, I will go over everything with you to make sure you understand our needs so the job will go smoothly. It is helpful to move as many small items and empty heavy books or dishes so we can move the furniture away from the working areas as needed. We will always protect your things with plastic coverings.
What will the noise level be like?
Depending on your job there will be possibly sounds such as hammering, saws, or drilling. If we are planning to make too much noise or dust for a long time, we will let you know.
Do you need me to be home at any point during the day?
Usually, there is no need to be home unless you choose to be there.
Will there be days when you might want us to leave?
There will be times we will be spraying wall texture, making too much sawing or hammering noise or too much dust that you might want to leave for a few hours.
How is your work guaranteed with a Home warranty and when does it expire?
Steve's Home Service warrants that the work shall be by the Contract Documents and free from material structural defects. We will redo or repair any work, not by the Contract or any defects caused by faulty materials, equipment or workmanship for (5) years from the date of completion of the Work.
The general contractor should provide you with the firm’s warranty in writing; don’t accept any verbal agreements. The warranty list should be clear and detailed. Some general contractors will visit your home within six months after the project is completed, and then again at one year (this is acceptable), and fix anything that went wrong due to their work or faulty products installed. The best general contractors will also return after two years and fulfill any warranty obligation items at that time.
Do you have a list of client references?
Yes I have a list of References.
